The St. Andrew’s Christmas House Tour is a long standing tradition in Oakville and is an exciting way to get you into the Christmas spirit. The tour will present an interesting mix of architecturally unique homes. Each home is decorated for the Christmas season by talented local designers, offering visitors an opportunity to soak up the holiday vibe and be inspired to decorate their own homes for the festive season. Grab some friends, bundle up and come be inspired!
Mark your calendars because this year's house tour will take place on Friday, December 5th & Saturday, December 6th. More information about the tour will be available this fall with tickets going on sale November 4.
The first St. Andrew’s Christmas House Tour was held in 1981. A member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) had read about a similar tour in the United States and thought it would work well in Oakville with its stately homes and history. There were nine homes on the tour plus the Gairloch Gallery. Tickets were $5, with the opportunity to buy wine, coffee, and sandwiches at École Ste. Marie (a sign by the church parking lot marks this demolished landmark). Eighteen hundred tickets were sold.
In 2009, the tour was expanded to include a Friday night candlelight tour. The tour has been held every two years, with the exception of 2021, welcoming guests from the GTA and beyond.
Each year proceeds from the tour benefit the church and local charities. Thousands of dollars have been distributed to charities including the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Canine Vison Canada, Kerr Street Mission, Fareshare Food Bank, Home Suite Hope, and Ian Anderson House -just to name a few.
The Halton Particular Council is comprised of 13 volunteer outreach teams in Oakville, Milton and Burlington, which collectively serve over 1,400 people (900 adults and 500 children). Three of the main program components, based on the core pillars of wellness, health and education are: the Halton Fresh Food Box Program, the Emergency Dental Assistance program, and the RESP Systemic Change Project.
Food4Kids Halton provides healthy food packages for elementary-age kids with limited or no access to food each weekend. The food packages, assembled by volunteers, are delivered to schools each week to ensure children have nourishment over the weekend. Food4Kids served more than 1,100 children across Halton living with food insecurity and 382 of these children live in Oakville.
Fare Share Food Bank is a small non-profit registered Oakville charity that has been run entirely by volunteers since 1987. They currently have about 700 households registered for regular weekly support. Financial donations are used to pay rent and utilities, and to buy food.
